Farpoint, the First Indonesian Company to Participate in the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark Survey

Farpoint Highlights Its Case Study of Proactive Action In Preserving Water Resources

Jakarta, 15 September 2014

Farpoint, an Indonesian real estate developer, is the first Indonesian real-estate company to participate in the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) Survey. GRESB is an industry-driven organization committed to assessing the sustainability performance of real estate portfolios around the globe, reviewing various aspects of sustainability such as Building Certification and Environmental Management Systems among other things. The result of the survey has been compiled into an annual sustainablity report, in which the 2014 edition has been published on Thursday (4/9).

The GRESB aim is to evaluate and improve sustainability practices in global real estate sector. The seven aspects of sustainability which is measured on the surveys are Management, Policy & Disclosure, Risks & Opportunities, Monitoring & Environmental Management Systems, Performance Indicators, Building Certifications, and Stakeholder Engagement.

An innovation case study highlighted by Farpoint was its proactive strategy in managing water resources. The strategy involves innovative implementation of a Versitank sewage and water treatment system at Citi Square Business Park project in Kalideres, and the implementation of Rainwater Harvesting System in VERDE Apartment in Kuningan. The value from these strategies is beyond the increased efficiency of water consumption, instead it has also created  an enhanced positive environmental impact towards the urban environment.

The Versitank system at Citi Square Business Park was created to overcome the lack of city utilities, sewage system and water supply, to the project site. The solution from Farpoint was to  extract water from a deep-well and creating an innovative sewage treatment system. The treatment system channels sewage through a series of bioseptic tanks and biofilters to the drainage system, where it will finally feeds the treated water into a Versitank water absorption tank. The system not only enables the Business Park to be self-sufficient with its water resources, but it also prevents localized flooding, as well as becoming environmentally friendly as it returns treated water through the absorption tank.

Driven by the vision to create a sustainable development, VERDE Apartment was designed with the thinking to support a long-term water conservation. A Rainwater Harvesting System was then created by Farpoint as an integral part of the project. The system collects and processes all rain-water at the site, and then channels it for common use, increasing the efficiency of water consumption on site.

“Our role is not merely about developing real-estate projects, but also as a responsible stakeholder which takes the concern for various sustainability issues and practices as an integral part of our business in the Indonesia real estate industry,” explains Ms. Hellen Triutomo, Senior Marketing Manager of Farpoint.

The participation of Farpoint in the GRESB Survey is part of its commitment to enhance stakeholder value, and shows significant steps in improving the sustainability of the real estate industry in Indonesia.
