Collaboration between Habitat for Humanity Indonesia and Farpoint, initiatied by the belief that decent homes is key to a quality life.

Desa Margamulya and Desa Kedung Dalam in Tangerang is a village developed by Habitat for Humanity Indonesia in building decent houses for its low income inhabitants. The development is supported by long-term partnership with Farpoint, an Indonesian real estate developer, through “Home for a Home” program which aims to improve the quality of low-income family’s life and environment by building decent homes that are comfortable, safe and healthy.
Located only two hours away from Jakarta, both Desa Margamulya and Desa Kedung Dalam is selected by Habitat For Humanity Indonesia to employ the housing solution since the people’s livelihood in this village is not adequate to fulfill the requirement of building a house, sanitation facility, or even renovating existing houses. Most of the villagers worked as a seasonal agricultural worker or fishermen with an income of only Rp25.000 per-day, with the seasonal condition sometimes rendering their income to be uncertain.
The collaboration between Habitat for Humanity Indonesia and Farpoint to develop Desa Margamulya and Desa Kedung Dalam is aiming for a holistic development of the community. Farpoint believes that building a home is beyond constructing a building, it is a long-term goal in supporting a positive social, economic and spiritual transformation of the people.
National Director of Habitat for Humanity Indonesia James L. Tumbuan explains, “There are still tens of thousands of families forced to live in an inadequate home. Habitat for Humanity Indonesia with the support of companies such as Farpoint, is ready to help those families to live in a decent home.”
Since June 2012, Farpoint and Habitat for Humanity Indonesia has built new and transformed inadequate houses in Desa Margamulya dan Desa Kedung Dalam, targeting for low income families to be able to live in decent homes that are safe, healthy and comfortable.
One of the Home Partners of this program is Suryana (41), a farmer with three children. “I never thought I would be able to provide a place that could be called home by my children. I am truly grateful for everyone who has helped fulfill our family’s dreams. Now my children can live safely and comfortably in their new home,” Suryana said regarding the home support received by his family.
Farpoint’s support is part of an initiative called “Home for a Home” program where Farpoint would provide donation in the name of their property buyers to Habitat for Humanity Indonesia for building decent homes. Farpoint has commited to continue the collaboration with Habitat For Humanity Indonesia as a long-term partnership. A total of 174 houses had been and will be built by “Home for a Home” program, where Farpoint’s contribution will cover more than 33 percent of the total home required by this villages until 2018.
