Bromelain Enzyme (BE) is a manufacturer of refined bromelain products. Bromelain is a collective term for protein-digesting enzymes, and can be found in pineapple juice and pineapple stems.
BE was set up as a joint venture company between Great Giant Pineapple (GGP) and Enzybel International S.A. (part of the Floridienne Group), a Belgian company which produces and markets plant proteolytic enzymes such as papain, bromelain and ficin.
With its factory located in Lampung, BE started commercial operations in 2011 with the aim to manufacture refined bromelain products for export to Europe, USA, Asia Pacific and other countries. In 2013, BE produced approximately 60 tons of bromelain which represents 21% of the world market.
