Gunung Sewu is founded
The charismatic Om Goh Soei Kie* builds GSK from scratch. He focuses on trading and distributing staple commodities. Om Goh is known for his entrepreneurial spirit and highly respected for his integrity, prudence and humility. (*Indonesian name: Mr Dasuki Angkosubroto)
1960
Gunung Sewu becomes one of Indonesia’s prominent commodity traders.
Through astute entrepreneurship and discipline, Om Go expanded his network across the Indonesian archipelago and led Gunung Sewu to become one of Indonesia’s prominent commodity traders.
1978
Gunung Sewu develops Hayam Wuruk Plaza.
As Gunung Sewu diversified into property, it pushed creative boundaries by developing Hayam Wuruk Plaza as the first wheelchair accessible building in Jakarta.
1979
Gunung Sewu incubates Great Giant Pineapple (GGP).
Gunung Sewu incubates Great Giant Pineapple and begins planting seeds in Lampung, South Sumatra. Indo Keramik (now Indo Porcelain) is founded, manufacturing ceramic tableware in Tangerang, West Java.
1984
GGP now has 23 production lines.
GGP inaugurates its sixth manufacturing line to capture a growing demand in canned pineapples. GGP now has 23 production lines.

Gunung Sewu partners with Ayala Corporation (Philippines).
Seeing the untapped potential of the life insurance market in Indonesia, Gunung Sewu partners with Ayala Corporation of the Philippines to set up Universal Life Indo (now Sequislife).
1987
Gunung Sewu acquires Indo Keramik (now Indo Porcelain).
Gunung Sewu acquires Indo Keramik (now Indo Porcelain), a manufacturer of porcelain tableware in Tangerang.
1990
GGL is established to manage GGP’s waste.
Great Giant Livestock (GGL) is established in Lampung, South Sumatra to manage industrial waste from Great Giant Pineapple. Instead of discharging its pineapple peels to the environment, they are processed into animal feed for GGL’s livestock, which is sold to slaughterhouses in Sumatra and Java.
1992
Universal Life Indo is renamed Sewu New York Life
Universal Life Indo (now Sequislife) is named New York Sewu Life as Gunung Sewu goes into a joint venture with New York Life.
1993
Gunung Sewu takes full ownership of shoe manufacturer Semasi.
Gunung Sewu takes full ownership of brown/dress shoe manufacturer Semasi. Since then, Bogor-based Semasi has expanded from a home industry to an export-oriented manufacturer.
1995
SSN sets up its distribution centre in Tangerang.
SSN sets up its distribution centre in Tangerang, near Jakarta. A pioneer in the fruit ripening process, SSN distributes its flagship Cavendish bananas and other produce under the Sunpride and Sunfresh brands to retailers across Indonesia.
1998
Gunung Sewu faces the Asian Financial Crisis.
Gunung Sewu was shaken by the Asian Financial Crisis—a test of resilience which the Group passed to reach greater heights.
2003
Gunung Sewu takes over all of New York Life’s shares in Sewu New York Life.
To strengthen its portfolio, Gunung Sewu acquires all of New York Life’s shares in Sewu New York Life. The company was rebranded as Sequislife.
2005
Sequislife buys Met Life Indonesia.
Sequislife buys Met Life Indonesia to expand into institutional business, bancassurance and telemarketing.
2006
Farpoint acquires properties in Jakarta.
Farpoint, the Group’s real estate arm, began to reposition its portfolio. Farpoint acquires properties in Jakarta including Menara Budi which was later converted into the VERDE apartments.
2009
Om Go passed away.
Om Go passed away leaving a lasting legacy of an entrepreneurial and reputable Gunung Sewu.

Semasi’s Gino Mariani makes an aggressive push.
Semasi’s footwear brand Gino Mariani makes an aggressive push to tap into Indonesia’s growing middle class.

Farpoint launches its first development project.
Farpoint launches its first development project VERDE—a pioneer in tropical resort living in Jakarta CBD.

Gunung Sewu acquires additional shares of Yupi Jelly Gum.
Gunung Sewu further penetrated the domestic consumer market through acquiring additional shares of Yupi Jelly Gum which in 2014 became the largest gummy candy producer in ASEAN.

Gunung Sewu celebrates its 60th anniversary.
Gunung Sewu marks a historic milestone, celebrating its 60th anniversary.
2014
Re.Juve opens first store, a cold-press juicery in Jakarta.
Re.Juve, the first cold-press juicery in Jakarta, opens its first store in May at Gandaria City followed by its second and third stores at Kota Kasablanka and Lotte Shopping Avenue respectively.

SaveMax opens its first store in Serpong.
New-concept modern wholesaler SaveMax opens its first store in Serpong.

Sierad Produce becomes part of Gunung Sewu.
Sierad Produce, an integrated poultry-based food company, becomes part of Gunung Sewu through acquisition by Great Giant Pineapple.

Sewu Segar Nusantara wins an award.
Sewu Segar Nusantara became the Champion of Indonesia Original Brand for Fruits 2016

Gunung Sewu wins Sustainability Award
